Ekaterina Kuzmina is a curator and art manager with over twenty years of experience across Russian and Japanese art institutions.
She began her career in 2004 and joined the Moscow Museum of Modern Art (MMOMA) in 2007, where she remained for eleven years – leading public and educational programmes across the museum’s five sites, developing collection-based and major loan exhibitions and rising to Senior Research Fellow in the Research Department. Her credentials and standing in the field, built over fourteen years in art museums, have been formally recognised by leading institutions there and in Japan.
She later relocated to Tokyo on a fully funded graduate scholarship and completed a master’s degree at Tokyo University of the Arts. Fluent in Russian, English and Japanese, she brings a rare cross-cultural curatorial perspective spanning European modern and contemporary art and the Japanese avant-garde.
She founded Witness Contemporary on the conviction that art belongs where people already are, and that reaching an audience which never set out to look for it demands more curatorial rigour, not less. Working with hospitality and commercial spaces, she builds programmes that bring contemporary art into ordinary daily settings, and gives artists, local and international alike, an audience they would not otherwise meet.
